CHOPIN MEETS THE BLUES | PETER BEETS & KAUNAS BIG BAND

World famous jazz pianist PETER BEETS (The Netherlands) comes to Lithuania with a magical musical programme "Chopin Meets the Blues". The subtle black & white keys virtuoso will perform the only concert this year alongside the legendary Kaunas Big Band, celebrating its 30th birthday this year.

Providing a new perspective to classical music, "Chopin Meets the Blues" is one of the most successful projects created by Peter Beets. It is an authentic experience of a fresh & improvised music flow, incorporating something that has been heard for hundreds of times, yet in a totally new sound.

“I am a painter, for whom Chopin gave a piece of paper and a brush. I create my music with what I am given from him” – this is how Peter Beets presents the main idea of the programme.

The evening of December 13th at Kaunas State Musical Theatre will be filled with nocturnes, preludes and mazurkas by F. Chopin, reimagined by Mr. Beets. Sounds of Kaunas Big Band, lights and video projections will accompany the improvisational music flow. Peeter Beets (1971) The pianist performs in the greatest stages of the world. He has collaborated with great jazz stars, such as Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Toots Thielemans, Elvin Jones, George Coleman, Johnny Griffin, Benny Golson, & Kurt Rosenwinkel. Surrounded by the dichotomy of jazz and classical music from a very young age, Peter Beets believes in the power of classics. According to the pianist, jazz harmony and rhythmic drive enables to recolor the classics in a new attractive way.
